HARVEY CEDARS, NJ January 18, 2005
The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:30pm who stated to the best of his knowledge all requirements of the State Sunshine Law had been met. Commissioners Gerkens and Garofalo were present. Board Attorney John Cerefice was absent.
Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, January 7, 2005, was made by
Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens.

Second: Commissioner Gerkens
RESOLUTION #2005-008:

A copy of the resolution is attached hereto and made a part hereof.
Motion to adopt: Commissioner Gerkens
Second: Commissioner Garofalo
A copy of the resolution is attached hereto and made a part hereof.
Motion to approve the bills for payment: Commissioner Garofalo
Motion to open public discussion regarding the 2005 Ocean County Community Development Block Grant funding. Citizens and non-profit agencies are invited to comment on the housing and community development needs of the Borough:
Motion: Commissioner Garofalo
Second: Commissioner Gerkens
There were no residents in attendance, but Commissioner Garofalo read two emails that were received:
1. Pat Sattan, 10 E. 76th Street wrote “I would like to see some type of boardwalk or planking over the dunes to the beach. This would enable not only seniors, but all to better climb the dunes. It would also help control the sand from blowing from the dune. I have seen this on other beaches and it appears to be a great idea..!”
2. Marylu Danna, 5 E. 68th Street wrote “We could use a handicap walkway to the beach on 68th St. My 88 yr. old mother spends a good part of the summer in Harvey Cedars but due to the fact that she uses a walker, she is not able to see the water or beach. A walkway would enable her to get to an area where she could sit and enjoy the view.”
The Board discussed the planked walkovers pointing out that the planks start to warp and splinter after a while. Rollup walkovers were looked at the League Convention in November, but probably would not fit the CDBG criteria.
The Board determined that for this year’s project, handicap doors for the entrance to Borough Hall and the Post Office should be requested. The steel doors are rusted and are not handicap accessible.
Motion to close public discussion: Commissioner Garofalo
Second: Commissioner Gerkens

Motion to adjourn: Commissioner Garofalo
Second: Commissioner Gerkens
Meeting adjourned at 4:40pm.
