HARVEY CEDARS, NJ                                                       April 25, 2006

The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:38pm who stated to the best of his knowledge all requirements of the State Sunshine Law had been met.  Commissioners Gerkens and Garofalo were present.  Board Attorney John Cerefice was absent.

The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, April 7, 2006, was made by

Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens.

The Mayor read the following ordinance by title and number and asked for a motion to introduce. 

ORDINANCE #2006-08 FIRST READING

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS WITHIN THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF $95,000.00 IN BONDS TO FINANCE THE COST THEREOF

(Repairs & construction of Public Works garage)

(Smoking prohibited in playground areas)

RESOLUTION #2006-044: 

CHAPTER 159 ITEM OF REVENUE INSERTION IN THE SUM OF $4,000.00 –

CLEAN COMMUNITIES GRANT PROGRAM

RESOLUTION #2006-045: Bills

A copy of the resolution is attached hereto and made a part hereof.

Motion to approve the bills for payment was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens

A motion was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens, to approve the request to use Sunset Park and W. Salem Avenue to Beachwheels, Inc. on June 17, 2006 from 6:45am to 9:30am for a wheelchair race.

A motion was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens, to approve the request to use Sussex Ave. beach to Jennifer Forlenza for a wedding ceremony on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 5pm.

PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR –

Gene and Lee Blumenthal, 10 E. Burlington Ave., discussed with the Board the status of the beach project and the beach replenishment that took place 10 years ago at Marco Island, FL. The Blumenthals are in favor of the beach project and are aware of some negative effects that the project may have, such as the fishing, but are more concerned with property safety.

The Mayor will be going to Washington, DC tomorrow to lobby for more resources for the future.  Prior to the meeting, the Board met with Dr. Farrell, a coastal geologist from Stockton College, who will be preparing a presentation to give to the public in the near future regarding Long Beach Island’s and Harvey Cedars’ beaches.
