HARVEY CEDARS, NJ                                                       June 2, 2006

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:30pm who stated to the best of his knowledge all requirements of the State Sunshine Law had been met.  Commissioner Garofalo and Board Attorney John Cerefice were present.  Commissioner Gerkens was absent.

 

The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, May 16, 2006, was made by

Commissioner Garofalo.

 

The Mayor read the following ordinance by title and number and asked for a motion to introduce. 

ORDINANCE #2006-11 FIRST READING

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS, 1975, ENTITLED “ADMINISTRATION”

(Add Long Beach Township to Joint Environmental Commission)

RESOLUTION #2006-054: Bills

A copy of the resolution is attached hereto and made a part hereof.

Motion to approve the bills for payment was made by Commissioner Garofalo.

 

A motion was made by Commissioner Garofalo to approve a request to use Cape May Ave. beach to Carolee Kokola for a wedding ceremony on Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 3:30pm to 5pm.

 

Kevin O’Such of North Beach updated the Board on his Eagle Scout project.  He conducted a contest at the Long Beach Island grade school for the 5th graders to design a “no smoking” sign to be placed in the playground areas.  Kevin handed the Board the five finalists’ drawings.  The Mayor will announce the winner on June 7th at the grade school.

 

Dr. Stewart Farrell and Dr. Mark Mihalasky from the Stockton Coastal Research Center gave a slide show presentation on Harvey Cedars’ beaches using collected data since 1984 including LIDAR and dune profiles.  They also discussed how the beaches and dunes would hold up in several types of storms, and how the LBI beach replenishment project would affect the island.  A standing room only crowd was present for the hour long presentation.  Questions from the Board and public followed.  Printed and electronic copies of the slide show were given to the Clerk for handouts and to be placed on the website.
