REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS:
Commissioner Gerkens –
· The Borough Highlights will be sent out shortly with information on various topics.
· The beaches are not in great condition and a nor’easter is coming.
· There is a new fence for the ballfield.
Commissioner Garofalo –
· The next budget meeting will be scheduled tentatively the first week in December.
Mayor Oldham –
· The dredge (for the beach replenishment project) should be near Surf City any day. The State lost the case against the five Surf City property owners. Decisions must be made soon on how to proceed with the unsigned easements in Harvey Cedars. The Commissioners plan to meet with residents to get their input.
· The Mayor stated that he was excited to see that LOSAP passed in Long Beach Township, which should encourage enrollment of volunteers.
· The Commissioners attended the League of Municipalities convention last week, and are interested in forming a safety committee to address issues such as the Boulevard and pedestrian safety.
PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR –
Wendy Chambers, 13 East 75th Street, read quotes and the 2007 hurricane predictions from the Farmers Almanac and stated she is very nervous and scared of what could happen (if we do not get the beach protection project). Ms. Chambers and the Board discussed at length the future of the project in Harvey Cedars. The Board will be making a decision after Thanksgiving on how to proceed with the easements and will be informing residents by mail and on the website on how to contact the DEP and state legislators about the proposed beach regulations.
John Gerkens, 7 W. Burlington Ave., suggested a time limit be set for questions.
Ms. Chambers asked if Commissioner Gerkens had a chance to look at the beach entrances (77th Street). Commissioner Gerkens said she did, and at this time there will not be any change due to the pending beach project.
Motion to adjourn: Commissioner Garofalo
Second: Commissioner Gerkens
Meeting adjourned at 5:13pm.
