HARVEY CEDARS, NJ                                                       January 5, 2007

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:30pm who stated to the best of his knowledge all requirements of the State Sunshine Law had been met.  Commissioners Gerkens and Garofalo were present. Board Attorney John Cerefice was absent.

 

The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, December 19, 2006, was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

 

Motion to approve the minutes of the special meeting held on January 4, 2007 was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens.

 

Motion to approve the Board of Commissioner’s worksession and executive minutes for the year 2006 was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

ORDINANCE #2007-01 FIRST READING

AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND DETERMINING THE ANNUAL BASE SALARIES OF CERTAIN OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS FOR THE YEAR 2007

The Mayor read the following resolution by title only and asked for a motion to adopt.

RESOLUTION #2007-010: Bills

Motion to approve the bills for payment was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

 

A request was submitted by Sarah Mergenthaler to use 80th Street beach for a wedding ceremony on Saturday, July 28, 2007 from 5:30pm to 6:15pm, followed by the reception at her home on Bay Terrace.  The number of people expected is 120.  There was a brief discussion regarding where the guests would park.  The Board requested the Clerk to inquire before granting permission.

 

A request was submitted by Lisa Klein and the SOCH Foundation to use Long Beach Boulevard for the Great Causeway Challenge biathlon on Saturday, April 21, 2007.  The Board requested the Clerk to find out details regarding cones and if Public Works/Police employees will be needed.

 

A motion to approve the request for Kevin O’Such and Scout Troop #32 to do a clean-up in Sunset Park in January was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens.

 

PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR –

 

John Cadmus of the Harvey Cedars Taxpayer’s Association reported that the Association had letters with pictures ready to go out to the property owners that have not signed the easements for the beach project.

 

Mayor Oldham asked if there were any comments on the zoning ordinance revisions noting that the Commissioners planned to introduce the ordinance in February and there has been no input from the taxpayer’s association’s representatives.

 

Commissioner Garofalo noted that there is a budget meeting scheduled for the 8th of January at noon and, again, invited the Taxpayer’s Association to attend.

 

Mr. Richard Bushnell spoke about RCTB “Re-Clam the Bay” a project in the Barnegat Bay area that encourages the public to take responsibility for the quality of the local waters.  He explained how the group currently raises “seed” clams and replants them into Barnegat Bay noting that young and old alike enjoy the educational tours offered by the group that stresses the importance of keeping the environment ready to accept the transplant clams.  He elaborated on the current fundraising project of Giant Clams that are decorated by artists and auctioned to the public.
