HARVEY CEDARS, NJ                                                       March 2, 2007

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:30pm who stated to the best of his knowledge all requirements of the State Sunshine Law had been met.  Commissioners Gerkens and Garofalo were present.  Board Attorney John Cerefice was absent.

 

The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

The Mayor acknowledged and announced that Ocean County Freeholder Gerry Little was in attendance.

 

Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, February 2, 2007, was made by

Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

 

The Mayor read the following ordinance by title and number and asked for a motion to introduce. 

ORDINANCE #2007-03 FIRST READING

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS AMENDING CHAPTER 9 OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS ENTITLED “STORMWATER REGULATIONS AND STORMWATER CONTROL”

The Mayor read the following ordinance by title and number and asked for a motion to introduce. 

ORDINANCE #2007-04 FIRST READING

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER IV OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS, 1975, ENTITLED “GENERAL LICENSING”

(Increase beach badge rates)

Commissioner Garofalo stated that last year’s beach badge revenues were down by approximately $10,000 and the increase in fees will meet the budgetary requirements.

Motion to approve the February 20, 2007 bill list was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

 

RESOLUTION #2007-024: Bills

A copy of the resolution is attached hereto and made a part hereof.

Motion to approve the March 2, 2007 bill list was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens.

 

Mayor Oldham opened the floor for public comments.  Being no comments, the Mayor asked Officer Robert Burnaford to step forward for his installation as a permanent police officer.  The Mayor stated that the Board is very pleased having Rob as an employee; Rob was a lifeguard with the Borough for many years, he is a volunteer First Aid Squad member, as well as a member of the Fire Company.  The Municipal Clerk administered the oath of allegiance to Robert Burnaford.  His mother held the bible during the oath, and pinned on his badge, followed by congratulations from the Board, the Police Department, the Freeholder, coworkers, family and friends.

 

The Police Chief thanked the Board for their support and gave a brief speech about the changes in the Police Department.  He then presented the following awards as each officer came forward to accept:

                                                            Meritorious Award – Surf City Ocean Save

 

Chief Falkowski announced the creation of a new award entitled Officer of the Year.  It will be awarded at the Chief’s discretion to an outstanding officer.  The first award was presented to Sergeant Thomas Preiser.  A plaque was given to the Sergeant and a larger plaque was presented with the inscription of “In recognition of the officer who has demonstrated a level of dedication, commitment and service, above that of all others, for the overall good of the Harvey Cedars Police Department” along with the officer’s engraved picture.  There is room for 12 officers on the plaque and it will be hung in the entrance foyer of the Borough Hall.

 

The Chief invited all to stay for refreshments and a tour of the police station.
