HARVEY CEDARS, NJ January 4, 2008
The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:34pm who stated to the best of his knowledge all requirements of the State Sunshine Law had been met. Commissioners Gerkens and Garofalo were present.
The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, December 18, 2007, was made by
Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.
Motion to approve the minutes of the special meeting held on January 2, 2008, was made by
Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens.
Motion to approve the worksession minutes for the year 2007 was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

Commissioner Gerkens said the Board is making a change in departments; Mayor Oldham will continue with the Public Safety Department; Commissioner Garofalo will take over the Department of Public Works, and Commissioner Gerkens will move back to Revenue and Finance, where she served twelve years ago.

The Mayor said Helen (Kornacki) has been Acting Zoning Officer since John (Gerkens) passed away, and she has been doing a very good job; therefore, the Board is appointing her to fill his position.

Motion to approve the bills for payment was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.
After a brief discussion with the Police Chief, a motion was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo, to approve the request to use Long Beach Boulevard to Lisa Klein and the SOCH Foundation for the Great Causeway Challenge biathlon on Saturday, April 19, 2008 – race begins at 9am at Southern Regional High School, proceeds to Barnegat Light, and returns to the school. The Chief stated that his department will handle the event.
REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS:
Mayor Oldham announced that the Community Development Block Grant public hearing for 2008 would be held at the next regular meeting on January 15, 2008. Citizens and non-profit agencies are invited to comment on the housing and community development needs of the Borough. The Mayor asked the Clerk to notify the Taxpayers’ Association.
