HARVEY CEDARS, NJ SPECIAL MEETING February 4, 2008
The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of
Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 9:08am. Commissioner Gerkens was present and
Commissioner Garofalo was absent.
This Special Meeting was called pursuant to the provisions of the Open Public Meetings Law. Notices were faxed to the Asbury Park Press and Atlantic City Press on February 1, 2008 and posted on the bulletin board in the Municipal Building and the Post Office. Notices on the bulletin board have remained continuously posted.
Motion to
approve the minutes of the previous meeting, January 15, 2008, was made by
Commissioner Gerkens.
The
Mayor read the following resolution by title only and asked for a motion to
adopt.

The Mayor stated that a
public hearing was held on February 1, 2008 regarding the application to be
submitted for funding consideration through the 2008 Ocean County Community
Development Block Grant. Citizens and
non-profit agencies were invited to comment on the proposed CDBG application
for handicap accessible drinking fountains
to be installed at Sunset Park and at the handicap beach ramps. The Borough
Clerk and Commissioner Garofalo were present.
Also in attendance were Clyde Neil, 6503 Holly Ave., and Al Wright, 3
Cedars Ave., as well as a reporter from the Beach Haven Times. The Commissioner discussed with the public
the purchase and installation of the fountains and said they would cost
approximately $3,000.00 each for a total project amount of $12,000.00. There were no objections. The Mayor read the following
resolution by title only and asked for a motion to adopt.

A motion
was made by Commissioner Gerkens to approve the request to use the Hudson Ave.
beach to Joe Keenan and the NSSA for 2 amateur surfing contests from 7am to 4pm
on the following dates:
Sunday, May 4, 2008 –
“no surf date” May 18
Sunday, October 5, 2008
– “no surf date” October 12
A motion was made by Commissioner Gerkens to approve the request
to use Sunset Park to Bobby Woods for an instruction baseball clinic from July 7
to July 11, 2007 from 9:00am to 12noon.
REPORTS FROM
COMMISSIONERS:
Mayor Oldham announced that
Ocean County will be eliminating the County construction department. The department includes the fire, electrical
and plumbing inspectors who service the Island. He stated he will be attending a meeting this afternoon with the
Island mayors, the County Freeholder and County Administrator to discuss this
situation. Although the Mayor
understands the County is trying to save money, the municipalities will now
have to bear the burden of organizing and hiring the inspectors in a very short
time.
