Commissioner Gerkens, representing the Harvey Cedars Activity Committee, stood before the audience of Fire Company members, First Aid Squad members, Activity Committee members, employees and residents to present to the High Point Volunteer Fire Company a new defibrillator.  She asked President Scott Wolfschmidt, Assistant Chief Jason Marti and Captain Justin Marti to join her. She stated the following:

“Harvey Cedars Activity Committee is in its 21st year of providing fun events for the community.  Over this time, we have also given various things to Harvey Cedars when we have seen a need, such as defibrillators to the Borough Hall and to a police car, beach wheel chairs, the holiday decorations on the utility poles, and a boat for the LIT program.

The High Point Volunteer Fire Company also provides much to the community besides invaluable fire protection.  Many events are held at the firehouse yearly, including the talks and slide shows of the Activity Committee.

This past summer we had an unexpected medical situation at one of our talks in the fire house.  Although this occurrence was readily handled, we realized that with all of the community events held at the firehouse, it could be a very beneficial place to have a defibrillator.  The Fire Company agreed.

So, the Activity Committee is please to present this defibrillator (Commissioner Garofalo presented the defibrillator to the fire company members) to be made available in the firehouse and we want to thank the fire company for giving so much to the town.”

Following the applause, Mayor Oldham asked how many veterans were present today and the following raised their hands:  Tony Aukstikalnis, Ozzie Kline, Chuck Sahlberg, Al Wright and Merritt McAlinden.  The Mayor asked Mr. McAlinden to approach the Dias.  Mayor Oldham read the following resolution in full, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof.
