HARVEY CEDARS, NJ March 17, 2009
The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:30pm. Commissioners Gerkens and Garofalo were present.
The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Mayor stated that pursuant to the applicable portions of the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of this meeting has been given. The schedule of this meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars is listed in the notice of meetings posted on the bulletin board located in the Borough Hall, posted on the Municipal website and was published in the Beach Haven Times on December 24, 2008.
On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, the Mayor expressed his condolences to the Hathaway family on the loss of Pat. Services will be this Saturday at 1:00pm in Barnegat Light.
Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, March 6, 2009, was made by
Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

RESOLUTION #2009-035:
INTRODUCTION OF MUNICIPAL BUDGET FOR 2009 TO BE READ BY TITLE ONLY
Municipal Budget of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, County of Ocean for the Fiscal Year 2009.
BE IT RESOLVED that the following statements of revenues and appropriations shall constitute the Municipal Budget for the year 2009.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said budget be published in the Beach Haven Times in the issue of March 25, 2009.
A hearing on the Budget and Tax Resolution will be held at the Municipal Building, 7606 Long Beach Blvd., Harvey Cedars on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 4:30pm at which time and place objections to said Budget and Tax Resolution for the year 2009 may be presented by taxpayers or other interested persons.

A motion was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens, to approve the request for Christine Arcieri to use Sunset Park for a wedding ceremony on Saturday September 12, 2009.
POLICE PRESENTATIONS –
In front of a small crowd of co-workers, family and friends, Police Chief Jerry Falkowski announced that this was the 3rd annual awards presentation and mentioned that for the first time a recipient outside of the Police Department was receiving an award. The Chief recognized and praised Jim Schroeder of Public Works for his work on an ambulance that he helped renovate into a Mobile Emergency Response Vehicle for the Police Department, as well as for his work on converting the off-road vehicle Mule into a police vehicle. A Certificate of Merit was awarded to Jim for his dedication and efforts.
Chief Falkowski, along with Sgt. Preiser, presented the following Police Department awards:
1. Officer Robert Burnaford received a Certificate of Merit for a 9-1-1 fire call response in Loveladies.
2. Officer Lee Morey (not present) also received a Certificate of Merit for the 9-1-1 fire call response in Loveladies.
3. Officer Angelo Vasile received a Certificate of Merit for his response to a fatal emergency in Barnegat Light involving a rolling trash truck.
4. Detective Charles Sahlberg received a Certificate of Merit for his awareness of observing a bicycle theft in progress while off-duty and returning to work to resolve the crime.
5. Detective Charles Sahlberg received the 2008 Chief’s Award for Officer of the Year for his dedication and commitment to the job and the department.
The Mayor thanked the Chief for a job well done and asked for a motion to adjourn.
