HARVEY CEDARS, NJ                                                       May 1, 2009

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:32pm.  Commissioners Gerkens and Garofalo and Borough Attorney William Hiering, Jr. were present.

 

The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

The Mayor stated that pursuant to the applicable portions of the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of this meeting has been given.  The schedule of this meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars is listed in the notice of meetings posted on the bulletin board located in the Borough Hall, posted on the Municipal website and was published in the Beach Haven Times on December 24, 2008.

 

Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, April 14, 2009, was made by

Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo.

ORDINANCE #2009-06 SECOND READING

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER 12 OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS SO AS TO ESTABLISH A NEW SECTION 12-10 ENTITLED “UNDERGROUND UTILITIES”

AUTHORIZING THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS TO ENTER INTO A SHARED SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH THE COUNTY OF OCEAN FOR THE FY 2007 HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT PROGRAM

($735 grant for radio antenna)

RESOLUTION OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS TO REFUND TAX OVERPAYMENT MADE IN ERROR

RESOLUTION #2009-053: 

AWARD CONTRACT FOR POLICE VEHICLE UNDER STATE CONTRACT

Mayor Oldham stated

WHEREAS the Local Budget Law provides that the budget amendment be read in full at the time of the public hearing.

 

Commissioner Gerkens stated that the Division of Local Government Services recommended changes in certain line items of the budget.  After apologizing to the large crowd for the state mandated necessity to read the amendment in full, Commissioner Gerkens read the budget amendment (Resolution #2009-048) in full. A copy of the resolution is attached hereto and made a part hereof.

A motion was made by Commissioner Garofalo, seconded by Commissioner Gerkens, to approve the request to use Sunset Park to Christina Murphy for a wedding ceremony on September 18, 2010 at 11am.

 

A motion was made by Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Commissioner Garofalo, to approve the request to use Sunset Park and Salem Avenue to Richard West for the annual wheelchair race on June 20, 2009.

 

The Mayor acknowledged the presence of the recently retired Chief of Police Jerry Falkowski and complimented him on the tremendous job he did with the police department.

APPOINTMENT OF POLICE CHIEF FOR THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS

APPOINTMENT OF POLICE SERGEANT FOR THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS

In front of a full room of residents, family, friends and co-workers, the Municipal Clerk administered the Oath of Allegiance for Chief Thomas Preiser and Sergeant Charles Sahlberg.  Their wives held bibles during the oath and pinned on their new badges afterwards.  Following the ceremony, Chief Preiser made a brief speech to thank everyone and invited everyone to the Fire House for a celebration.
