HARVEY CEDARS, NJ                                                       November 6, 2009

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars, NJ was called to order by Mayor Oldham at 4:30pm.  Commissioner Gerkens and Borough Attorney Michael McKenna were present.  Commissioner Garofalo was on vacation in Florida.

 

The Mayor asked all to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

The Mayor stated that pursuant to the applicable portions of the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of this meeting has been given.  The schedule of this meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Harvey Cedars is listed in the notice of meetings posted on the bulletin board located in the Borough Hall, posted on the Municipal website and was published in the Beach Haven Times on December 24, 2008.

 

Motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, October 20, 2009, was made by

Commissioner Gerkens, seconded by Mayor Oldham.

 

The Mayor read the following ordinance by title and number and asked for a motion to introduce. 

ORDINANCE #2009-14 FIRST READING

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS, IN THE COUNTY OF OCEAN, NEW JERSEY, PROVIDING FOR ACQUISITION OF A FIRE ENGINE AND RELATED EXPENSES IN AND FOR THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS AND APPROPRIATING $840,000 THEREFOR AND PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF $798,000 IN BONDS OR NOTES OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS TO FINANCE THE SAME

A copy of the full ordinance as introduced is attached hereto and made a part hereof.

 

The Mayor stated that the fire company is replacing a 1989 Sutphen Fire Engine.  Harvey Cedars is the lead agency in the purchase, with Long Beach Township and the Fire Company participating in the funding.

The Mayor read the following resolution by title only and asked for a motion to adopt.

RESOLUTION #2009-107: 

AUTHORIZING THE UTILITY COLLECTOR TO EXEMPT CERTAIN WATER / SEWER CHARGES

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTY FUNDS FOR THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS’ BEACH NOURISHMENT PROJECT

Ronny Ott and his parents were in attendance regarding Ronny’s Eagle Scout project.  The Mayor read the following resolution in full commending Ronny Ott.

RESOLUTION #2009-110: 

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING RONNY OTT FOR THE INSTALLATION OF HYDRANT REFLECTORS

A copy of the resolution is attached hereto and made a part hereof.

 

Ronny thanked the Mayor and Commissioners and presented the Board with a Certificate of Appreciation for the opportunity to execute his Eagle Scout Service Project entitled “The Harvey Cedars Hydrant Project”.

 

PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR –

 

Scott Law, East 85th Street, asked the Board if any decisions were made regarding the street end access ways (to the beach) and their composition, which was discussed at the last meeting.  The Mayor responded that he is waiting for the Borough Engineer to get back to him, and that the Board will be making a decision after all the options have been reviewed.
