RESOLUTION #2006-049

 

CERTIFYING THE GENERAL FUND TAX LEVY FOR THE SOUTHERN REGIONAL BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2006/2007 BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE BOROUGH OF HARVEY CEDARS

 

            WHEREAS the voters of the Southern Regional High School District defeated the proposed budget on April 18, 2006; and

 

            WHEREAS the law requires that Southern Regional meet with the governing bodies of each of the seven constituent municipalities or their representatives; and

 

            WHEREAS the law requires that the governing bodies of each municipality reach a consensus regarding any and all adjustments in the Southern Regional budget; and

 

            WHEREAS the Southern Regional High School District believes that a cooperative approach to this process in the best interest of all concerned parties including the students of the district as well as the voters; and

 

            WHEREAS the Board recognizes the difficult task faced by each of the constituent municipalities; and

 

            WHEREAS the representatives of Borough of Harvey Cedars and the Southern Regional Board of Education met on April 27, 2006, May 3, 2006 and on May 10, 2006 to conduct  comprehensive reviews and discussions of the Southern Regional Budget.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Body of the Borough of Harvey Cedars that the following determination is hereby made:

 

  1. The original tax levy on the ballot for the base budget:            $ 35,366,771.00
  2. The amount of reduction to the tax levy for the base budget:        $      500,000.00
  3. The amount of tax levy being certified for the base budget:          $ 34,866,771.00
  4. Line items to be reduced:

Account # 12-000-401-450     Capital Projects                          $100,000.00

Account # 10-303                    Budgeted Fund Balance              $400,000.00

  1. The revised budget is sufficient to provide a thorough and efficient education.
  2. There was no additional general fund tax levy considered by the voters.

 

BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Southern Regional School Board, Superintendent of the Ocean County Department of Education, and the Administrator of the Ocean County Board of Taxation.
